Colleton County Fire-Rescue

9/26/2008

Stations 19, 26, and 27 responded to a MVC involving a loaded School Bus and a small car in the 1500 block of Jefferies Blvd near Dandridge Road. The accident occurred in front of the Kangaroo Gas Station at approximately 1515, Friday afternoon 26-September. Apparently the car was exiting the gas station onto Jefferies Highway when it pulled into the path of the southbound school bus.

The two occupants in the car complained of various injuries, none of which appeared to be life threatening. The twelve students on the bus were checked by firefighter-paramedics, but all denied injuries. The bus driver complained of minor injuries and transported to Colleton Medical for treatment. Firefighters kept the children together in the gas station parking lot until some parents arrived to pick them up. About half the students was transported home on another bus. School officials were also on the scene. The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Traffic was tied up on the busy highway for about 40 minutes. North bound traffic was detoured at Robertson Blvd, while southbound traffic was rerouted onto Longleaf Road.

Engine 19, Engine 26, Medic 19, Medic 27, Battalion 1, Truck 16 and Truck 12 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
