Colleton County Fire-Rescue

1/2/2009

Stations 1, 19, 24 and 26 responded to a structure and woods fire in the 200 block of Juttner Lane at 1332 Friday 02-January. Medic 9 was returning to their station and responded from one mile away. On arrival they reported a 20 x 30 wooden building well involved with a rapidly moving woods fire that was threatening a nearby singlewide mobile home. Firefighter-Paramedics from Medic 9 were already suited up when Engine 19 arrived and deployed an 1-3/4 handline. The woods fire had already reached the mobile home and burned the underpinning on the "D" side of the structure and was melting the vinyl siding.

Another crew deployed a second 1-3/4 handline and began attacking the fully involved wooden building. Additional firefighters used flaps and metal rakes to attempt to control the fast moving woods fire, which was driven by light winds and dry brush. A tractor from the Forestry Commission was also requested. Medic 9's crew quickly extinguished the fire at the mobile home and then assisted with the wooden building. The fires were under control within 15 minutes. Units remained on the scene for 45 minutes to completely extinguish the fires. No injuries were reported. The fire originated in an unattended debris pile

on a vacant lot.

Engine 19, Engine 26, Tender 1, Tender 26 and Battalion 1 responded. Asst.Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
