Units from Station 9 arrived several minutes later to find the motorcycle driver lying unconscious in the roadway. A second Medic Unit and a medical helicopter were requested. Medic 19 and Meducare arrived approximately 15 minutes later. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene, which included intubation and chest decompression, however he went into cardiac arrest just before the helicopter landed and was then transported by ambulance to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

The female patient suffered moderate injuries. Firefighters used two sets of Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the roof on the vehicle to allow for extrication. She was also treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 9, Engine 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Medic 9, Medic 19, Truck 12 and Meducare responded. Firefighter Ray Delonge served as Incident Commander.
