Stations 1, 19, 26 and 27 responded to a high speed head-on collision between two vehicles in the 1000 block of Robertson Blvd near the bridge over Ireland Creek, Tuesday evening 22-December at 2054. The accident occurred in a curve. A west bound Toyota RAV4 collided with a Pontiac Bonneville trapping the driver of the Bonneville. Walterboro Public Safety and Sheriff’s Deputies closed Robertson Blvd between Jefferies Highway and North Lemacks Street for approximately one hour until the accident was cleared. Firefighters stabilized the car, then used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the two driver’s side doors and the “B” post. The female driver received multiple traumatic injuries and was extricated with full spinal precautions. She was treated at the scene before transport. The female driver of the RAV4 was also treated at the scene, but suffered relatively minor injuries. Both patients were transported in separate Fire-Rescue Medic units to Colleton Medical Center. The driver of the Bonneville was later transferred to the Trauma Center at MUSC.

Colleton County Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Medic 27 and Truck 12 responded. Walterboro Public Safety Engine 1 and Engine 3 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
