Stations 1, 18 and 26 responded to a two vehicle MVC in the intersection at Bells Crossroads (Bells Hwy./SC Hwy 64 and Lowcountry Hwy./US Hwy 21) at 1:50 PM Sunday 14-February. A small car pulled into the path of a southbound Carmichael’s LP gas truck. The large LP truck struck the small car in the passenger’s side door. The female driver of the car suffered multiple traumatic injuries, was rendered unconscious and she was trapped in the vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics  were on the scene within a minute from Station 18 at the crossroads. It only took about 10 minutes to extricate the woman using Holmatro hydraulic tools. A medical helicopter was requested, which brought Omniflight-Charleston to the scene. The woman was treated at the scene and then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC. No LP gas was leaking from the truck.

Engine 18, Engine 26, Rescue 1, Rescue 18, Medic 18 and Battalion 1 responded. Lt. Mitchell Breland served as Incident Commander.
