4/1/2010

Stations 1, 19, 26 and 27 responded to a five car MVC in the 300 block of Mighty Cougar Drive at 1354, Wednesday afternoon 1-April. The chain reaction accident occurred after a vehicle rear-ended a line of cars stopped at a traffic light, pushing four other vehicles into the cars ahead of them. Twelve people, mostly students from the high school, complained of various non-life threatening injuries. Engine 19 and Medic 19 initially responded to the report of two people injured, but were overwhelmed with patients when they arrived. Three additional Medic units were dispatched to assist with the packaging and transport of nine patients. Three people decided to travel to the ED by private auto. Sheriff’s Deputies rerouted traffic on Mighty Cougar Drive for about 35 minutes, due to the two lane road being clogged with emergency vehicles. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Medic 26, Medic 27, Medic 102 and Battalion 1 responded. Firefighter-EMT Marshall Murdaugh served as Incident Commander.
