Stations 1, 26 and 27 responded to a single car high speed MVC on I-95 at the 49 mile marker northbound Monday morning 5-April at 0722. The driver reported she was arguing with her boyfriend, when he grabbed the steering wheel causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. The small Chevrolet Cavalier rolled over multiple times before coming to rest on its wheels in the ditch at the wood line. The two adults and two of three children were injured. No one was restrained except a two year old girl who was in a child safety seat. She was not injured. Medic 27 treated the mother and children at the scene. An eleven year old receive a head injury and other traumatic injuries and was rapidly transported to Colleton Medical Center. A second Medic Unit was requested to transport the adult male. He too suffered a head injury with loss of consciousness. He began to deteriorate enroute to Colleton Medical Center, so the ED Physician advised to transport the patient to a trauma center. A medical helicopter met Medic 26 at Colleton Medical Center’s helipad. The patient, who lost consciousness enroute to the ED, was flown to the Trauma Center at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah Georgia. The SC Highway Patrol and Colleton County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.
