4/19/2010

Stations 5 and 26 responded to a high speed single vehicle MVC on I-95 at the 68 mile marker northbound at 2050, Monday evening 19-April. The small SUV left the roadway, entered the median and over-turned three times before coming to rest upright against the cable barrier. The female driver suffered multiple non-life threatening traumatic injuries and was trapped inside the heavily damaged vehicle. Engine 26 and Medic 26 arrived to find the woman conscious with various complaints. She was wearing a seatbelt. Firefighter-Paramedics used the Holmatro Rescue tools from Engine 26 to force the driver’s door open. This provided access to the patient. Crews were able to extricate the woman with little difficulty. She was treated at the scene, then transported by Medic 26 to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 5, Engine 26, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Richard Sheffield served as Incident Commander.
