Colleton County Fire-Rescue

4/29/2010

Stations 5, 9, 11, and 19 responded to a structure fire at 329 Whites Aves north of Cottageville at 0933, Thursday 29-April. Engine 9 and Medic 9 were originally dispatched to a woods fire reported to be near this location. On their arrival, firefighters found an approximately ½ acre woods fire and an older mobile home completely burned down. The singlewide mobile home had a wooden addition to the building. A structural response was assigned to the incident. Engine 9 used it’s deck gun to knock down the bulk of the flames, then deployed one 1-3/4 handline and a booster line to extinguish the remains of the building and begin working on the woods fire. A tractor from the Forestry Commission was requested and responded. Firefighters spent an hour extinguishing the fire. The Forestry Commission cut a line around the perimeter of the fire to contain the woods fire. The fire spread from an unattended trash fire on the property.

Engine 9, Engine 11, Tender 5, Tender 9, Tender 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Lieutenant Andy Saulman served as Incident Commander.
