“B” Shift – MVC with air evacuation

Run # 10-05352 – Stations 17 and 26 responded to a two vehicle MVC in the 4100 block of Sunrise Road Tuesday morning 28-September at 0719. An off-duty Firefighter-Paramedic arrived within minutes to find a Mercury Mountaineer that had collided with a tractor trailer hauling logging equipment. The small SUV suffered heavy front end damage and both air bags did deploy. The 68 year old driver of the Mountaineer suffered loss of consciousness and suspected multiple traumatic injuries. A medical helicopter was requested. The female patient was treated at the scene for her injuries. The truck driver complained of minor injuries, but did not require ambulance transportation. The accident blocked the entire road closing the highway to through traffic for about 40 minutes. A landing zone was set up in the front yard of a residence at the accident site.  Lifenet 3 responded, then flew the patient to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

 

Engine 17, Engine 26, Tender 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Steve Sanders served as Incident Commander.
