“A” Shift – Auto Pedestrian MVC w/Air Evacuation

Run # 10-05400 - Stations 19 and 26 responded with Walterboro Public Safety to an auto/pedestrian accident at the intersection of Wichman Street and North Lemacks Street Thursday evening 30-September at 2035. An adult male on a bicycle entered the intersection, collided with a pickup truck and fell to the ground striking his head on the pavement. The man was found semiconscious in the roadway with a head injury and other traumatic injuries. Medic 26 arrived within minutes, treated the man on scene which included spinal immobilization, IV therapy and oxygen. A medical helicopter was requested. The man was packaged and then transported two miles to the Lowcountry Regional Airport to meet with Omniflight. He was transferred to the flight crew and flown to the trauma center at MUSC in Charleston. The pickup truck driver was not injured. Walterboro Public Safety is investigating the crash.

Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded to the scene. Engine 19 set up the Landing Zone at the airport. Walterboro Engine 1 responded to the scene. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
