“B” Shift – Double Stabbing with Air Evacuation

Run # 10-05917 – An early morning altercation has left one man in critical condition and sent a second man for treatment at Colleton Medical Center. Both men received stab wounds to the chest during an altercation at 319 Francis Street, Friday morning 29-October at 00:18. Walterboro Public Safety Officers secured the scene where both men were found. The home was in disarray with a large quantity of blood in one room. Firefighter-Paramedics found a 46 year old male with a large stab wound to the left chest. The patient was experiencing difficulty breathing and bleeding from the wound. He was placed in Medic 19 where ALS procedures were performed to secure the chest wound. Dual large bore IVs were established and a medical helicopter was requested. Medic 1 responded for the second victim who was reported to only have a hand injury. The patient was stabilized at the scene, then transported to the Lowcountry Regional Airport 1 mile away to meet with the helicopter.

On examination, Firefighter-Paramedics from Medic 1 discovered in addition to his hand injury, the second victim also had a chest wound. The wound did not appear to be life threatening. He was stabilized on scene, then transported by Medic 1 to Colleton Medical Center for further treatment. Medic 19 met Omniflight-Charleston at the airport. The patient was transferred without incident and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Walterboro Public Safety is investigating the incident.

Engine 19, Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Chief McRoy served as Incident Commander.
