“C” Shift – MVC with Air Evacuation

Incident # 10-6356 - Stations 1 and 19 responded to a two vehicle MVC on I-95 at the 52 mile marker northbound at 0921, Monday morning 22-November. A northbound Honda rear ended a northbound minivan causing heavy damage to both vehicles. The minivan was able to stop in the median, while the Honda continued north approximately 1/8 mile before losing control. The Honda left the roadway, drove down an embankment and struck a tree. The vehicle then over-turned. The adult male driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was semi-conscious when Medic 1 arrived. He was treated and stabilized at the scene. A medical helicopter was called to transport the man to a Trauma Center. Two passengers in the minivan, an adult female and male child, were also injured. Both were immobilized and transported by Medic 19 to Colleton Medical Center. Omniflight-Charleston landed on the Interstate north of the accident. They flew the patient to MUSC in Charleston. I-95 northbound was shut down for approximately 20 minutes while the helicopter was on the ground. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 110, Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander. Asst. Chief David Greene coordinated the LZ.
