02/20/2011 – “C” Shift – MVC

Incident # 11-00988 – A mid-afternoon MVC sent three people to Colleton Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The accident occurred on Sunday, 20-Feb at 13:07. A northbound vehicle lost control near the 58 mile marker causing the small SUV to overturn. The attached U-Haul trailer broke away from the vehicle and over-turned multiple times landing on its side in the travel lanes. The SUV rolled over, landing upright, then rolled down an embankment coming to rest at the wood line. The three occupants were immobilized at the scene and transported by Medic 26. Traffic on the Interstate was backed up four miles, resulting in two other multi-vehicle accidents. A five car collision occurred on the bridge over Bells Hwy resulting in two people being transported by Medic 1 to Colleton Medical Center. A three vehicle collision occurred at the 56 mile marker, but fortunately no one was injured. Traffic remained backed up for several hours.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded to the first accident. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander. Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded to the second accident. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander. Car 111 responded to the third accident, but there were no injuries.
