03/01/2011 – “C” Shift – Motorcycle MVC with Air Evacuation

Incident # 11-01185 – A 41 year old male was air lifted to the Trauma Center at MUSC Tuesday 1-March at 16:05, after receiving multiple traumatic injuries in a MVC. Engine 16 and Medic 26 arrived at the intersection of Heirs Corner Road and Railroad Street to find a motorcycle had collided with a passenger car. The male patient was lying in the roadway with several apparent injuries. After a quick examination it was confirmed the patient suffered a head injury as well. He was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics and immobilized with spinal precautions. A medical helicopter was requested to meet Medic 26 at the Lowcountry Regional Airport. Medic 26 transported the man to the airport to be transferred to the Omniflight-Charleston helicopter. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 110 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic (Acting Battalion Chief) Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
