03/01/2011 – “C” shift – Medical Emergency with Air Evacuation

Incident # 11-01190 – A female patient suffered a sudden and acute medical emergency at a residence on Wesley Grove Road Tuesday evening 01-March at 18:49. Medic 19 arrived to find the woman unconscious and in critical condition. A medical helicopter was requested to rapidly transport the patient to the Stroke Center at MUSC in Charleston. The patient was treated at the scene, then transported to a large field near the intersection of Wesley Grove Road and Rehoboth Road. Omniflight-Charleston responded to the landing zone. Firefighter-Paramedics in consultation with the ED Physician at Colleton Medical Center administered medications to the woman in attempts to stabilize her condition. Omniflight flew the patient to directly to MUSC.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter Ray DeLonge served as Incident Commander.
