03/06/2011 – MVC with ejection & Air Evacuation

Incident # 11-01287 – A single car MVC on Interstate 95 at the 58 mile marker southbound as sent two people to area hospitals. The accident was reported at 18:13 after a southbound Chevrolet Envoy suffered a blowout. The vehicle lost control, went off the right shoulder and overturned at least once ejecting a female occupant. Two other people were also in the vehicle. Engine 26 and Medic 18 arrived to find the vehicle upright on the right shoulder near the wood line. After a quick evaluation of the patients, a medical helicopter and second Medic Unit were requested. Medic 26 was assigned to the incident and Lifenet 3 responded, landing on the Interstate just south of the accident site. The female patient was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston with various traumatic injuries. A male patient was transported by ambulance to Colleton Medical Center. A second female occupant was not injured. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 26, Medic 18, Medic 26 and Car 12 responded. Engineer-EMT-I Mikey Banks served as Incident Commander.
