04/06/2011 – “B” Shift – Structure Fire

Incident # 11-01935 – A Siegler Drive home suffered extensive damage in an early morning fire Wednesday, 6-April. At 03:06 Fire-Rescue was notified of a home on fire at 123 Siegler Drive. Engine 19 arrived four minutes later to find the single story dwelling 60% involved.  Firefighters initially used a deck gun to knock down the fire, then deployed one 1-3/4 handline and one 2-1/2 handline. Firefighters worked for about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. Overhaul proved to be challenging, as the home turned out to be an older model singlewide mobile home, that had several additions, an added common roof structure over the original mobile home and the additions. Additional siding was added around the entire structure to give the appearance of a wood frame building. The original mobile home appeared to have been remodeled as well, with several floor layers. Units were on the scene for four hours due to the extended overhaul. The home was undergoing additional renovations, so the homeowner was not in the residence, but was staying with a relative next door.

Firefighters were able to stop the spread of the flames, however the entire interior was gutted. The man lost all of his belongings inside the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Engine 19, Engine 24, Tender 1, Tender 9, Tender 19, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
