06/21/2011 - MVC with Air Evacuation – “A” Shift 

Incident # 11-03431 – A single vehicle MVC resulted in one man being flown to a Trauma Center and a woman being transported to Colleton Medical Center. The accident occurred in the 11000 block of Hendersonville Highway (US Hwy 17-A) near the Jonesville Community at 22:12 Tuesday evening 21-June. The northbound small car appeared to have left the roadway before striking a concrete culvert. The 51 year old male passenger suffered multiple traumatic injuries including a broken leg and head injury. The female patient suffered non-life threatening traumatic injuries. Medic 6 arrived, requesting a second Medic Unit and a medical helicopter. Both patients were treated at the scene, before the male patient was transported to a nearby baseball field. Engine 8 set up a landing zone in the field. Omniflight-Lifestar from Springfield GA responded to the scene. The patient was flown to the Trauma Center at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 8, Medic 1, Medic 6, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
