18/July/2011 – Multi-Vehicle MVC(s) – “A” Shift

Incident # 11-03968 and # 11-03969 – Two separate accidents involving the same vehicle resulted in three people being transported to the hospital Monday evening 18-July. In the first accident which was reported at 21:14, a car was struck by a full size Ford Pickup Truck near the intersection of Bells Highway and Mount Carmel Road. The pickup truck fled the scene, leaving a pregnant woman injured in her car. Medic 18, who had just cleared from the hospital, handled the accident. They transported the woman to Colleton Medical Center for evaluation. Four minutes later at 21:18, a second accident was reported in the 100 block of Jones Swamp Road, 2 miles away, reporting a two vehicle head-on collision. Engine 26 and Medic 26 responded and found a pick-up truck and small Kia compact car with heavy damage in the center of the road. It appeared the truck left the right shoulder of the road, knocked down a cluster of mail boxes before over correcting and entering the oncoming lane. The truck struck the small car head-on. On evaluation of the patients, Medic 26 requested a second ambulance. Medic 19 was assigned to the incident.

Both male drivers were transported to Colleton Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Walterboro Public Safety and the SC Highway Patrol are investigating to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. Colleton County Animal Control transported a dog from the second accident. The dog was not injured.

First MVC – Medic 18, Walterboro Public Safety responded.

Second MVC – Engine 26, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
