07/26/2011 – MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift

Incident # 11-04121 – A single vehicle accident sent one man to the hospital Tuesday morning 26-July. The north bound small car left the roadway in the 9800 block of Green Pond Hwy overturning in a deep ditch. The driver of the car was trapped in the wreckage in about two feet of water. The accident occurred during a thunderstorm. The adult male could be heard from outside the car. A Sheriff’s Deputy drove up on the MVC shortly after it occurred. Engine 6 and Medic 6 arrived within minutes, but could not access the driver. Crews stabilized the vehicle before forcing a door and removing a window. The patient was immobilized and extricated on a long spine board. He suffered multiple, non-life threatening traumatic injuries. Medic 6 transported the patient to Colleton Medical Center.

Engine 6, Medic 6, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 116 responded. Battalion Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident Commander.
