09/05/2011 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Incident # 11-04833 – A suspicious fire at a Round O Road home, destroyed the building Monday afternoon 05-September. Firefighters were notified of the incident at 13:25. The home was located in a rural area off of the roadway and the site was blocked by heavy woods obstructing the view from the road.  Engine 19 arrived to find the doublewide mobile home fully involved. The roof of the structure had already burned away and most of the rear walls were gone. Engine 19 deployed two 1-3/4 handlines with crews quickly knocking down the fire. Firefighters were able to enter the structure within 8 minutes to complete the extinguishment. The entire structure was gutted. Water supply was conducted with Tenders. No one was at the residence when firefighters arrived. Fire Investigators quickly discovered evidence of a suspicious nature in the remains of the home. The SLED arson unit was notified and sent several investigators to the scene, including an arson dog. Fire units remained on the scene for 3-1/2 hours, while SLED and Colleton Fire Investigators continued working the scene until nearly 21:00.

Engine 5, Engine 9, Engine 19, Tender 5, Tender 9, Tender 17, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 902,  Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Steve Sanders served as Incident Commander.
