01-30-2012 / Woods Fire endangering Structures / “B” Shift

Incident # 12-00567 – A large woods fire endangered multiple structures Monday afternoon 30-January. At 16:03 Engine 1 was dispatched to a woods fire in the 400 block of Shelby Lane. Units arrived to find a rapidly moving multi-acre woods fire with several structures endangered. Additional units and personnel were requested. Access to the property was limited. Firefighters used multiple handlines to control the fire and protect the buildings. A Forestry tractor was also requested and responded to the scene. Firefighters worked for nearly two hours to extinguish the fire. Several piles of building materials were destroyed. The fire burned within 2 feet of one home before it was stopped. No structures were damaged. The fire is believed to have spread from a debris pile fire on the property. it damaged approximately 12 to 15 acres. The SC Forestry Commission is investigating the fire.

Engine 1, Engine 19, Engine 24, Tender 1, Tender 19, Tender 27, Brush 24, Battalion 1 and Car 116 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander. The Forestry Commission responded with a tractor and a Ranger.
