02/22/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-00988 – An early morning fire destroyed a mobile home in the 2400 block of Pine Grove Road Wednesday morning 22-February. Fire-Rescue was notified of the fire, located on the rural road near the Hudson Mill Community at 00:49. Engine 31 arrived to find what appeared to be a debris pile and a full-sized van on fire. The fire was located approximately 100 feet off of the road. As firefighters began extinguishing the van, they found that the debris pile was the remains of a singlewide mobile home. The fire had been estimated to have been burning for some time. The shell of the van was all that was left and the mobile home only had the metal roof and frame rails remaining. Firefighters used two 1-3/4 handlines to extinguish the fires. The metal roof had to be removed to allow firefighters to extinguish the burning coals underneath. Several pieces of lawn equipment and a flatbed trailer were also destroyed. Fire units remained on the scene for 1-1/2 hours. No one was at home when the fire occurred. The cause is under investigation and the Sheriff’s Office is assisting.

Anyone with information regarding the cause of the fire should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 843-549-2211 or Fire-Rescue Headquarters at 843-539-1960.

Engine 18, Engine 31, Tender 1, Tender 4, Tender 29, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
