02/26/2012 – Grass and Structure Fire – “B” shift

Incident # 12-01104 – An unattended debris fire spread through a yard in the 100 block of Paps Place Sunday morning at 11:36. The fire was pushed by light winds onto the adjacent property, destroying a older farm building and reaching a singlewide mobile home. Engine 18 arrived within minutes and was able to stop the fire from reaching the mobile home. They used a deck gun to knock down the flames on the farm building, before deploying one 1-3/4 handline for the building and a booster line to combat the grass fire. Engine 31 and Brush 31 arrived a few minutes later to assist in extinguishing the fire. The incident was originally reported as only a grass fire. Engine 18 requested a structural response after finding the farm building on fire. They had the fire under control within 20 minutes and cancelled other responding Engines. The Forestry Commission responded with a Brush Truck and a Tractor. Approximately 2 acres of grass and woods was involved.

Engine 10, Engine 15, Engine 18, Engine 31, Tender 4, Tender 15, Tender 18, Tender 27, Brush 31, Medic 18 and Battalion 1 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Steve Sanders served as Incident Commander.
