03/04/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-01238 – A mobile home received moderate damage from an electrical fire Sunday evening 04-March at 23:28. Engine 19 was dispatched to the area on a smoke investigation in the area of Gadsden Loop  and Peurifoy Road, after a neighbor reported heavy smoke in the neighborhood. A Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol, found a singlewide mobile home one block away at 41 Raleigh Street with light smoke coming from the building. The incident was upgraded to a structural response. Engine 19 arrived on the narrow limited access dirt lane, to deploy one 1-3/4 handline to the building. The structure was equipped with security bars on all the windows and doors. While one crew used a K-12 saw to remove the bars, a second crew made entry on the structure. The fire was found to be in the wall of a bedroom. The fire had spread along the wall and entered the void space above the ceiling. Crews removed the interior and exterior wall coverings, then pulled the ceiling in the affected room.  The fire was confined to the area of origin. The resident had recently moved out of the mobile home, so no one was living in the structure. The power was still connected. Firefighters remained on the scene for 1-1/2 hours.

Engine 12, Engine 19, Engine 24, Tender 1, Tender 12, Tender 19, Tender 27, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 118 responded. Captain Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
