05/26/2012 – Drowning Incident – “B” Shift

Incident # 12-02813 - A 16 year old Colleton County man lost his life in a drowning incident in a pond near the end of Twin Oaks Lane Saturday 26-May. Fire-Rescue was notified of the missing swimmer at 5:54 PM. He had been swimming with two other youths in a borrow/excavation pit. The water was reported to be approximately ten feet deep. One of the other teenagers advised rescuers the man got into trouble about 15 feet from the side. They tried to swim back and assist him, but he went under the water. They were unable to locate him. The teenagers had to run to a nearby residence to seek assistance. Fire-Rescue units arrived five minutes following the dispatch. There was no sign of the swimmer. Fire-Rescue divers were requested and arrived at 18:20. Divers searched the area where the man was last seen. His body was located on the bottom of the pond. He was pulled to side of the pond, where Firefighter-Paramedics examined him. He had no signs of life. The Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. The Coroner’s Office transported the man to the morgue. The Sheriff’s Office and DNR Officers also responded.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Marine 27, Car 12 and Car 105 responded. Deputy Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
