23/July/2012 – Meth Lab Decon – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-03994 – Fire-Rescue’s HazMat Team was called to assist Law Enforcement with a Meth Lab found at a residence on Sidneys Road, Monday afternoon 23-July at 17:56. According to a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Office, members of the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office and Walterboro Public Safety Joint Drug Crime Unit executed a Narcotic Search Warrant at 3416 Sidney’s Rd. During the execution of the search warrant an active Methamphetamine Lab was located inside the residence. Two suspects that reside at the residence were arrested. Upon discovering the active lab, members of the Joint Drug Crimes Unit secured the scene and requested the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Colleton County Fire and Rescue Hazardous Materials Unit to respond to the scene. All Suspects were decontaminated at the scene and the two suspects were transported to the Colleton County Detention Center and incarcerated pending a Bond Hearing.

The DEA handled the actual crime scene and secured the items inside the residence. Fire-Rescue personnel positioned two apparatus and tarps to provide privacy for the suspects. They were decontaminated in the yard, then transported by the Sheriff’s Office.

Engine 19, HazMat 19, Medic 19 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
