08/January/2013 – Fatal MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-00123 - A 47 year old North Walterboro man died in an early morning motorcycle accident Tuesday 08-January. At 04:52, a Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol found the man and motorcycle about 15 feet from the roadway near the intersection of Jefferies Highway (US Hwy 15) and Burlington Road, five miles north of Walterboro. The man was found lying next to the motorcycle and did not have any signs of life. The motorcycle’s engine was cold, indicating the accident had occurred earlier in the morning. Engine and Medic 19 arrived a short time later. They verified the man was deceased. The Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. Apparently the north bound BMW motorcycle, left the roadway in a slight curve. It appeared to have remained upright for some distance, before it began to flip over several times. The driver was not wearing a helmet and suffered head injuries. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 19, Medic 19 and Car 109 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Roger Johnston served as Incident Commander.
