11/January/2013 – MVC w/ejection & Air Evacuation – “A” Shift

Incident # 13-00193 - A 54 year old Canadys man suffered critical injuries in a single car MVC on Round O Road north of Harlequin Lane Friday afternoon 11-January at 17:18. As the north bound 1998 GMC pickup truck entered a curve, it left the roadway on the southbound side of the road. The truck overcorrected, spun around backwards as it crossed back to the northbound side of the road then struck several trees. The truck received heavy damage in the collision and the driver was ejected from the truck. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene and requested a medical helicopter. Engine 19 set up a landing zone in a field next to the Sinai Church approximately 1-1/2 miles north of the accident site. Medic 9 transported the man to meet with the helicopter. The flight crew decompressed his chest before transferring him to the helicopter. The man was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 9, Engine 19, Medic 9, Battalion 1, Car 12  and Car 109 responded. Lt. Jimmy Jacques served as Incident Commander.
