12/January/ 2013 – Fatal MVC – “B” Shift

Incident # 13-00217 - A 27 year old Jonesville man died in a high speed motorcycle accident Saturday evening 12-January. At 23:10, 9-1-1 was notified of the accident in the 900 block of Lowcountry Highway (US Hwy 21) approximately one mile north of Hendersonville Highway (US Hwy 17-A). The south bound Suzuki motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve. The bike left the right shoulder of the road and flipped over several times. The motorcycle began to come apart before it struck a driveway culvert and was catapulted into the woods. The driver was thrown into the ditch. When Firefighter-Paramedics arrived the man had no signs of life, suffering from multiple traumatic injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. Crewmembers searched the area with flashlights and a Thermal Imaging Camera to check for additional victims. No one else was found. The Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. Traffic on Lowcountry Highway in the area of the accident was rerouted for two hours as Law Enforcement investigated the crash.

Engine 8, Medic 6, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
