07/April/2013 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-01834 – Two men were injured in a high speed MVC on Ritter Road at Ivanhoe Creek Sunday evening 07-April at 20:21. The eastbound pickup truck failed to negotiate a curve, overcorrected and crossed to the westbound side of the highway. The pickup struck the bridge abutment, became airborne and crashed into the Ivanhoe Swamp. Half of the guard rail on the bridge was torn off during the crash. Both occupants were able to self extricate and make their way back to the bridge. Sheriff’s Deputies found the soaked pair on the bridge. Both patients suffered non-life threatening traumatic injuries. They told Deputies they thought someone was shooting at them as they drove through the Catholic Hill Community and were fleeing the area. Neither man received any bullet wounds, but they were treated by Medic 6 for injuries received in the accident, then transported to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol and the Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Engine 22, Medic 6, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 107 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
