28/May/2013 – MVC with Air Evac – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-02839 – A 54 year old Walterboro woman suffered life threatening injuries when her Toyota 4Runner collided head-on with a northbound tractor trailer on Sniders Highway (SC Hwy 63) at Kizer Street. The accident occurred at 13:18, Wednesday afternoon 29-May. The small SUV received heavy damage to the exterior and interior. Units from Fire-Rescue and Walterboro Public Safety responded to the accident in front of the Druid Hills Apartment complex. The woman was treated while still in the vehicle, then immobilized on a long spine board. Once moved to the ambulance, she received IV fluids and pain medications. Medic 1 rapidly transported the patient to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the LifeNet 4 helicopter. She was transferred without incident, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Traffic on Sniders Highway was detoured to Hendersonville Highway for an hour. The truck driver was not injured. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Medic 1, Car 12, Car 119 and Walterboro Public Safety units responded.
