30/June/2013 – MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-03535 – A 35 year old woman escaped with only minor injuries following a single vehicle high speed MVC on I-95 near the 56 mile marker northbound. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon 30-June during a thunderstorm. At 14:10 the northbound vehicle lost control, spun around backwards and struck several trees in the median. The car came to rest on its side trapping the driver inside the vehicle. She was wearing a seatbelt. Heavy brush made the vehicle difficult to see from the road. Firefighter-Paramedics used a Glas-master tool to remove the windshield, then assisted the woman from the vehicle. She was treated for minor injuries at the scene, then transported to Colleton Medical Center for further evaluation. Northbound traffic on I-95 was down to one lane for approximately 40 minutes and backed up seven miles. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT Cody Hutto served as Incident Commander.
