07/September/2013 – MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-04890 – A two car MVC sent two people to the hospital Saturday afternoon 07-Septmeber at 15:15. Apparently a small Mazda pickup truck turned into the path of a fully restored vintage Chevrolet El Camino at the intersection of Hampton Street and Francis Street. The El Camino was returning from a car show. The impact was at the Mazda’s passenger door causing non-life threatening injuries to the adult male passenger. The passenger was trapped in the truck. The driver was not injured. The adult male driver of the El Camino received minor injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics on Medic 19 treated both patients and requested a second Medic Unit. Rescue 1 responded as mutual aid to the City of Walterboro to perform the extrication. City Public Safety personnel deployed one 1-3/4 handline, while Fire-Rescue personnel used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the passenger’s door. The man was extricated with full spinal precautions. Both patients were transported to Colleton Medical Center.

Walterboro Engine 1 and Ladder 1 responded. Fire-Rescue Medic 1, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 111 responded. A Walterboro Public Safety Officer served as Incident Commander.
