24/January/2014 – Multiple Burn Patients – “A” Shift

Incident # 14-00463 – Three patients received burns as a result of a house fire at 202 McDaniel Street in the City of Walterboro Friday morning at 11:36.  Walterboro Public Safety was notified of the residential fire at the corner of Girardeau and McDaniel Streets. First arriving units found the single story wood frame structure heavily involved. City Public Safety Officers deployed several handlines to combat the fire. Initial reports indicated several people were burned and one person was reported to be trapped inside the structure. Three County Fire-Rescue Ambulances and three County Paramedic First Response Units were sent to the scene. County Firefighter-Paramedics treated two adult females and a 3 year old girl at the scene. A medical helicopter was placed on standby, but all three patients were rapidly transported to Colleton Medical Center’s Emergency Department. A 51 year old female was later flown by helicopter to the Still Burn Center at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta Georgia. She suffered multiple burns. The 3 year old female, who received burns to her arms and hands, was transferred by private ambulance to the pediatric burn unit at MUSC’s Children’s Hospital. The 21 year old female was treated and released from Colleton Medical Center. An adult female was found deceased in the residence. Walterboro Public Safety is investigating the fire.

County Fire-Rescue Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 105 and Car 118 responded. City Engines 1,2,3 and Ladder 1 responded.
