24/April/2014 – MVC with Air Evac – “A” Shift

Incident # 14-02568 – A 31 year old Beaufort woman suffered multiple traumatic injuries following a single car MVC at the northbound 43 mile marker on I-95 Thursday afternoon. The woman’s 1999 Ford Explorer left the roadway at a high rate of speed before striking several large trees in the median. The small SUV received heavy damage in the collision and was partially suspended in the air. The woman was able to self-extricate prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Firefighter-Paramedics found the woman bleeding on the side of the highway. She was quickly treated and immobilized. Medic 13 had a very short scene time and requested a medical helicopter as while enroute to the hospital. LifeNet 4 was available at the helipad at Colleton Medical Center. Medic 13 rapidly transported the woman to the helipad where she was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 13, Medic 13 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Scott Mrowca served as Incident Commander.
