02/October/2014 – MVC with entrapment – “C” shift Incident # 14-05799 – An adult female received non-life
threatening, multiple traumatic injuries in a single vehicle roll-over
accident Thursday afternoon 02-October at 15:18. The woman was driving a
Dodge pickup truck pulling a camping trailer northbound on I-95 near the 67
mile marker, when the trailer began swaying. This caused the pickup truck to
lose control and over-turn. The camper disintegrated into a pile of rubble
as the pickup truck landed on the debris blocking one northbound lane. The
driver was wearing a seatbelt and was entrapped in the wreckage.
Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to find the Dodge truck upright on a large
pile of debris. They used hand tools and pry bars to force open the driver’s
door and free the patient. She was extricated with full spinal precautions
and transported to Colleton Medical Center. One lane of I-95 remained closed
for several hours until the accident could be cleared. Engine 5, Engine 26, Rescue 1, Medic 26, Battalion 1,
Car 12, Car 105 and Car 109 responded. Deputy Chief David Greene served as
Incident Commander. |
