27/February/2015 – High Speed MVC with Air Evac – “C” Shift

Incident # 15-01095 – A two vehicle high speed MVC injured four people and resulted in one patient being air lifted to a Trauma Center. The collision occurred in the 4200 block of Charleston Highway at Rodeo Drive Friday morning 27-February at 03:32. One patient advised responding personnel that both cars were east bound when their vehicle struck a deer and lost control. The small car spun around and was struck head-on by the car following them. Both vehicles then entered a field and flipped over, one breaking a power pole in half. Firefighter-Paramedics found one vehicle in the field on its roof and the other car was upright. Both suffered heavy damage. The first arriving responders called for two additional ambulances and placed a medical helicopter on standby at Colleton Medical Center.  A 22 year old female who suffered a head injury, was transported to the helipad at CMC by Medic 19, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston by LifeNet 4. A second adult female was transported to Colleton Medical Center with multiple, non-life threatening injuries. Two adult males in the other vehicle denied ambulance transportation to the hospital. A Coastal Electric crew responded to the scene to repair the power pole. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

Engine 19, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Engineer-EMT-I Chuck Moyer served as Incident Commander.
