21-May-2015 – School Bus vs Car MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 15-02719 – A loaded school bus and a small pick-up truck collided head-on near the intersection of Rehoboth Road (SC Hwy 651) and Addison Road Thursday afternoon 21-May at 16:01. Fire-Rescue responded with two Engines, three Ambulances and one First Paramedic Response vehicle. The roadway in the vicinity of the accident was blocked due to the accident. There were over thirty students on the bus, but only seven complained of minor, non-life threatening injuries. All were evaluated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics. The parents requested that three be transported by ambulance to Colleton Medical Center. Four students who were siblings, all went to the hospital with their mother. The bus driver was also treated at the scene. She denied ambulance transportation and wanted to remain on the scene with the children until they were picked up by the parents. The 42 year old male driver of the Chevrolet S-10 pickup suffered multiple none life-threatening traumatic injuries. He was transported by Medic 9 to CMC. Other than the pickup truck driver, no serious injuries were reported. The accident was cleared up in a little over an hour and parents responded to the scene to retrieve their uninjured children.  The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 5, Engine 9, Medic 9, Medic 19, Medic 26, Brush 9 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
