16/June/2015 – HazMat w/over-turned LP Truck – “B” Shift

Incident # 15-3343 - An over-turned LP Truck sent one person to the hospital and closed a portion of ACE Basin Parkway Tuesday morning 16-June. The accident occurred at 09:05 on a rural section of ACE Basin Parkway (US Hwy 17) between Green Pond and Jacksonboro. The 1500 gallon LP Truck was travelling northbound when it collided with a northbound tractor trailer. The LP truck entered the ditch and rolled over on its side causing heavy damage to the cab. LP began leaking from the damaged vehicle. Fire-Rescue Ladder 6 drove up on the accident shortly after it occurred. They blocked the roadway, requested additional units and provided care to the injured 74 year old driver. Firefighter-Paramedics transported the injured man in Medic 6 to Colleton Medical Center. The busy highway remained closed for several hours until HazMat Techs and personnel from Butler Gas Company worked in 107 degree temperatures to secure the leak. Units staged approx. ¼ mile away from the scene. AreaRae monitors were set up around the accident to monitor the atmosphere throughout the incident. An entry team approached the truck, closed the valves, and allowed the residual vapor to bleed from the lines.  No other injuries were reported. Law enforcement detoured northbound traffic.

Engine 1, Tender 27, Medic 6, Medic 9, Ladder 6, HazMat 19, Battalion 1, Car 107 and Car 116 responded. Asst. Chief Marty Stallings and Captain Chris Jones operated the Command Post.
