Incident # 16-05880 – Four people were injured in a single vehicle high speed roll-over accident on I-95 near the 47 mile marker southbound Tuesday evening 06-September. At 19:18, Colleton 9-1-1 began receiving multiple reports of the crash. Callers advised of several people being ejected and one person trapped under the car. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived 8 minutes later to find the Ford Explorer up right in median on the cable barrier. The vehicle had rolled at least once and suffered heavy damage. Two unrestrained teenaged patients had been ejected from the rear seats of the car and received life threatening injuries. One adult female was partially ejected with non-life threatening injuries and another adult female also received non-life threatening injuries. No patients were found to be trapped in the wreckage, however the car appeared to have landed on one of the ejected patient’s leg. Medic 1 requested three additional ambulances and two medical helicopters. Crews treated the injured at the scene while additional Firefighters set up a landing zone at the southbound rest area across from the accident site. LifeNet 4 responded and landed at the rest area. Due to an extended ETA, the second helicopter was cancelled and the 17 year old male patient was transported by Medic 13 to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical in Summerville.

Medic 26 transported a 17 year old female to the landing zone. After turning the patient over to the flight crew, LifeNet 4 flew her to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston.
