02/October/2016 – MVC w/entrapment & fire – “B” Shift

Incident # 16-06480 – Two adult males received life threatening injuries in a two car collision at the intersection of Hudson Mill Road and Benton Farm Road, Sunday evening 02-October at 19:34. The cars collided at the rural intersection causing heavy damage to both vehicles, which came to rest in the wooded area east of the intersection. One car erupted in flames. The driver of the second vehicle was trapped in the wreckage. A man living nearby and Debbie Bennett, an off duty nurse from Colleton Medical Center who drove up on the accident, pulled the semi-conscious man from the burning vehicle, saving his life. The nurse began treating his injuries. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later to find the car well involved with the fire spreading toward the other vehicle. A second ambulance was requested while Firefighter-Paramedics treated the injured and extinguished the fire. Holmatro Rescue Tools were used to free the trapped driver. Both patients were transported emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical in Summerville by Fire-Rescue Medic 1 and Medic 26. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 26, Tender 4, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 26, Car 12, Car 105, Car 110 and Car 111 responded. Deputy Chief Dr. David Greene served as Incident Commander.
