06/January/2017 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift

Incident # 17-00152 – A 50 year old Hollywood woman was injured in a two car collision near the 7000 block of Green Pond Hwy. Friday evening 06-January at 18:57. According to witnesses, the vehicle was traveling southbound on Green Pond Hwy, when it encountered several deer in the roadway. The car broke hard, but possibly struck two deer and was then struck in the rear by another southbound vehicle. The impact sent the Nissan Altima in the woods where it struck an embankment and was wedged between several trees trapping the driver. Two other occupants in the vehicle were not injured. The second vehicle also entered the ditch, but the driver was not injured. Firefighter-Paramedics crawled into the wrecked car and began treating the woman. They remained with her during the 25 minute extrication. Other crewmembers used Holmatro Rescue tools to extricate the driver. Both driver’s side doors and the “B” post were removed to allow for the woman to be extricated with full spinal precautions. She was transported to Colleton Medical Center by Fire-Rescue Medic 6. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The woman transferred to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical about one hour later by Fire-Rescue Medic 26.

Engine 1, Engine 2, Rescue 1, Medic 6, Battalion 1, Car 107, Car 109 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
