31/January/2017 – Fatal MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 17-00676 – A head on collision on North Jefferies Blvd injured three people, one fatally, Tuesday morning 31-January. At 09:02, two Chevrolet SUVs collided head-on after a south bound Tahoe crossed into the north bound lanes and struck a Suburban. The collision caused heavy damage to both vehicles and trapped the 51 year old female driver of the Suburban in the wreckage. Her 27 year old daughter also received non-life threatening injuries. The 50 year old male driver of the Tahoe was found unconscious and went into cardiac arrest at the scene. Two additional Fire-Rescue Ambulances were assigned to the incident. Firefighter-Paramedics treated all three patients at the scene. The male driver was transported emergent to Colleton Medical Center. He regained a pulse enroute to the ED, but did not survive. Firefighters used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the driver’s door on the Suburban and extricated the driver. She was quickly treated at the scene, then transported with her daughter emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston by Fire-Rescue Medic 19. Traffic on North Jefferies Blvd was detoured for over an hour. The Walterboro Police Department and Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.  

Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 109 and Car 111 responded. Walterboro FD responded two Engines to the scene.
