25/February/2017 – Fatal MVC w/ejection – “A” Shift

Incident # 17-01258 – A 55 yr old Florida woman died in a single car crash on I-95 near the 56 mile marker southbound Saturday afternoon 25-February. At 13:34, Colleton 9-1-1 received several reports of a small southbound pickup truck leaving the roadway at a high rate of speed and overturning several times. The truck came to rest on the driver’s side near the wood line. The female passenger was ejected from the truck and found unconscious in critical condition approx. 15 feet south of the vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics worked diligently to stabilize her and rapidly transported the patient to Colleton Medical Center with additional personnel on board. The hospital staff continued treatment and prepared to fly her to a Trauma Center, but she did not survive her multiple traumatic injuries and passed away shortly after arriving at the ED. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 109 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O’Quinn served as Incident Commander.
