27/February/2017 – Structure and Woods Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 17-01320 – At 18:11, Fire-Rescue was dispatched to smoke in the area of Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) and Powder Horn Road. Engine 26 reported seeing smoke off of Misty Ridge Lane which runs off of Powder Horn Road. Upon investigation, Firefighters found a large woods fire which had burned approximately 40 acres. A forestry tractor was requested. As Firefighters engaged the fire, they found an approximately 2200 sq. ft. block residence that was destroyed. The block walls remained, but most the remaining structure had already burned away, including the roof and floors. Crews deployed one handline to extinguish the remains of the home. A neighbor advised the structure was vacant. The fire originated from a debris pile on the adjacent property. The fire was not attended and burned unchecked for several hours in the rural area. The fire burned around a second residence but did not damage the home. Firefighters were on the scene for several hours.

Engine 26, Tender 17, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 109 and a Forestry tractor responded.
