19/September/2017 – Fatal MVC with Ejection – “B” Shift

Incident # 17-06500 – A Florida woman lost her life in a single car MVC in the 100 block of Lowcountry Hwy (US Hwy 21) just north of Hendersonville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) Tuesday morning 19-September. A 07:01, a passing motorist spotted the overturned Ford Focus well off of the roadway in a wooded area. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived within minutes from Station # 13 one mile north of the scene. They found the occupant near the car with no signs of life. Crews searched the surrounding area and also used a Thermal Imaging Camera in an attempt to locate additional victims. None were found. The engine on the vehicle was cold, indicating the accident happened much earlier in the morning or sometime the previous evening. It appeared the vehicle had been travelling at a high rate of speed, southbound on Lowcountry Hwy and failed to negotiate a curve. The car entered the ditch and struck a concrete culvert pipe, became airborne and struck two trees approximately 12 feet off the ground. The small car received heavy damage in the collision, flipped over at least once, ejecting the driver and came to rest approximately 100 feet from the road, landing on its roof. The Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. The SC Highway Patrol is investigatng the crash.
