16/December/2017 – Fatal MVC with Entrapment – “A” Shift

Incident # 17-08568 – A mid-20’s Colleton County man died from injuries he received in a single car MVC in the 11000 block of Green Pond Hwy. Saturday afternoon 16-December. The accident was reported at 15:44 after a 2010 Mazda traveling southbound on Green Pond Hwy (SC Hwy. 303) left the roadway and struck a tree at the passenger door. The adult male front seat passenger received life threatening injuries and was trapped in the wreckage. The female driver received non-life threatening injuries and four small children in the back seat were not injured. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later to find the car at the wood line with heavy damage. The passenger was unconscious and not breathing. Crews began resuscitative efforts while other Firefighters used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate the man. Once freed, he was immobilized and resuscitative efforts were continued during the transported to Colleton Medical Center. CMC’s Emergency Dept. worked on the man for nearly hour, but sadly he did not survive his injures. The other five patients were also transported to CMC in a second Fire-Rescue ambulance. The SC Highway Patrol MAIT Team and the Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.

Engine 6, Engine 27, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 6, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 117 responded. Asst. Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident Commander.
