06/January/2018 – MVC with Entrapment – “C” Shift

Incident # 18-00187 – Two people were transported following a high speed collision on I-95 near the 66 mile marker southbound Saturday morning 06-January at 01:10. A southbound Chevrolet Cobalt collided with the rear of southbound DOT snow plow. The snow plow received damage to the sand spreading device, however the small car suffered heavy damage which trapped the front seat passenger. The snow plow was able to pull into the breakdown lane, while the Cobalt lost control and came to rest at the wood line in the median. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man during the extrication. They used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the passenger side door and displace the dash to extricate the adult male. The man received non-life threatening injuries. A teenager was also treated at the scene and both were transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 26 to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.  

Engine 26, Rescue 1, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
